What is JupiterFIRST Mission Fellowship?

JupiterFIRST Mission Fellowship is a quarterly gathering of folks who are interested in mission and outreach, and wish to learn about opportunities for service. At our quarterly potlucks we invite representatives of various organizations to speak about their mission and to offer avenues for people to become involved. This fellowship is especially focused on adults (such as empty-nesters) who want to be involved in projects that reflect God’s care for humanity, and who wish to grow new and lasting friendships. Mission Fellowship potlucks are advertised several weeks ahead of time, and typically take place on a Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. in our Center for Spiritual Renewal. Everyone brings a dish to share. Everyone is welcome! We do require an RSVP to our church office so we know how many to set up for.

Thus far we have hosted presenters including: MYClinic in Jupiter; Real Life Children’s Ranch in Okeechobee; Kathryn and Nicole Bertolozzi who spent three weeks in Tanzania, Africa; Lisa Barron and the Alliance for Kids at St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital; Sheila Hirsch from El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center in Jupiter; Kathy Megrath and students from Palm Beach Atlantic about their experience in El Salvador: Rev. Juanita Goode with CROS Ministries; Matt Uhlman with YoungLife Ministries; and Ashley Holmer, Director of the Red Sweater Project in Tanzania. This past November 13 we heard from the four who visited Mission of Hope in Haiti and saw pictures of what MOH is doing. We also heard from guest Phil Rincon who started a 501c3 organization in downtown Port au Prince that focuses on changing a neighborhood through the use of a community garden.

Mission Opportunity: One Child at a Time

There are many ways to be instruments of God’s amazing grace in this world. One of those ways is to provide help and hope for a child who lives each day on the edge of despair, driven there by hunger, thirst, disease, abandonment, violence, or other factors beyond the child’s control.

We know that there are dozens of Christ-centered organizations dedicated to helping children throughout the world. But which are the ones who are reliable, trustworthy and use donations in a responsible way? We have talked to people who are using organizations and we have consulted CharityNavigator.org for good information, and are passing our recommendations on to you.

Brochures from our five recommended organizations are at our hospitality table in the Narthex.

If you have a heart for missions and for children and want to be involved, we suggest you visit the websites of the following organizations, learn more, visit the Charity Navigator website, and make your decisions.

The first four organizations are international. The fifth is local to Palm Beach County. For more information contact the church office.

HELP & HOPE: An Opportunity to Serve the Homeless in our Community

"For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me." (Matthew 25:35-36)

The JupiterFIRST Church family has been actively involved with The Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County and the Lewis Center in West Palm Beach. Many thanks to all of you who have graciously given your time, energy and financial resources for this ministry! Thanks to the Levitt family for helping organize!

We have served dinners generously donated by local restaurants, helped with Project Connect where needs are met for those on the streets and we help in the donation center that provides clothing and home essentials for those who are going through the program.

There are opportunities to serve and be love in action in our community! Be blessed to be a blessing to others in need and build relationships with your church family in the process!
